What are Telehealth and Tele-services?

Telehealth and Teleservices are on the Rise

I’ve had a lot of interest in my telehealth/teletherapy services here at Quantum Medical Massage and Hypnosis. Because of this interest I wanted to create a short post to explain just what this service is, how it can help you now, and the different tele-services I provide to help you while you are in the safety and comfort of your own home or office.

First, let's go over how quickly the USA has taken to tele-services for both physical and mental care. Due to the
COVID-19 pandemic you can guess that the numbers are much higher than in the previous year or two. But you may be as surprised as I was to see just how many people are using an online healthcare option. The graph below really sums up the percentage change from 2018 to 2019 (McKinsey):

Telehealth service rise graph from 2018 to 2019

And that was before COVID-19! Then look at the graph below to see just how big a jump we went in telehealth services in 2020. Many things came into play to cause a rocket-like increase. The pandemic, the federal government easing online healthcare restrictions, the fact that many Medicare tele-services came without a co-pay so people would continue to be treated for health care problems beyond COVID-19, and the public seeing that this is actually an effective and viable option. As more people used online health services more people used online health services. The numbers from January 2020 to April 2020 are astounding (healthaffairs.org):

Graph telehealth service increase Jan 2020 to April 2020

And this infographic from mckinsey.com:

Covid 19 outlook for telehealth

As you can see online healthcare will continue to be a popular path for many people in America to take care of their personal health. In order to assist as many people as possible I created my version of online healthcare by opening up many services that you can use without having to leave your house. A listing of those services is below. But before we get to them let’s look what telehealth and teletherapy are so we know what each means.

Telehealth Definition

The Health Resources Services Administration defines telehealth as the use of electronic information and telecommunication technologies to support long-distance clinical health care, patient and professional health-related education, public health and health administration. Technologies include videoconferencing, the internet, store-and-forwarding imaging, streaming media, and terrestrial and wireless communication.

Telehealth is different from telemedicine because it refers to a broader scope of remote healthcare services than telemedicine. While telemedicine refers specifically to remote clinical services, telehealth can refer to remote non-clinical services, such as provider training, administrative meetings, and continuing medical education, in addition to clinical services.

Teletherapy Definition

According to website medicalnewstoday.com, teletherapy is mental health counseling over the phone or online. That's a pretty basic and broad definition but fits correctly. Teletherapy allows the practitioner and the client to safely conduct a session in times like we are in now where some in person meetings are not necessary.

What are the benefits of a Teleservice?

The benefits to clients can include better access to services, sometimes lower cost, ease of travel, and a higher satisfaction with the services. According to medicalnewstoday.com, teletherapy can also have a higher rate of satisfaction than in person services.

Schedule Your Session Understanding Holistic Healing Holistic healing is an integrative approach that focuses on restoring balance to the body, mind, and spirit. This practice recognizes the interconnectedness of emotional and physical health, aiming to address the underlying causes of discomfort rather than merely alleviating symptoms. Practitioners employ various techniques, including gentle touch, energy channeling, and guided visualization, to facilitate relaxation and healing. These methods can help alleviate stress, anxiety, and physical pain, allowing individuals to tap into their innate healing potential. What to Expect During a Session Each session lasts 60 minutes and begins with a consultation to discuss your specific needs and any areas of concern. Billy may perform an energy assessment to identify imbalances that require attention. Clients are encouraged to lie down comfortably, fully clothed, while the practitioner works either through light touch or by hovering their hands above the body. The environment is usually tranquil, often enhanced with soothing music and soft lighting to promote relaxation. Many individuals report feeling a deep sense of peace during and after the session, with some experiencing emotional release and clarity as a result of the energy work. I felt lighter and more at peace!"- Emily R. "I was amazed at how relaxed I felt afterward. It truly helped me manage my stress levels."- David K. Non-Invasive and Gentle Approach: Unlike some medical treatments, energy healing is gentle and typically free of side effects, making it accessible for a wide range of individuals. Can Be Combined with Other Therapies: Energy healing can complement traditional medical treatments, enhancing their effectiveness and providing a holistic approach to wellness. Cons: May Not Be Suitable for Everyone: Some individuals may not resonate with energy healing practices or may prefer more traditional medical interventions. Results Can Vary from Person to Person: The effectiveness of energy healing can depend on individual circumstances, and while many experience benefits, others may not notice significant changes. Not a Substitute for Medical Treatment: Energy healing should be viewed as a complementary therapy rather than a replacement for conventional medical care. Requires a Commitment to Regular Sessions for Best Results: For optimal benefits, clients may need to commit to multiple sessions, which can be a barrier for some. Varying Levels of Practitioner Experience: The effectiveness of energy healing can depend greatly on the practitioner’s skill and experience, making it crucial to find a qualified professional. Key Points to Consider Consultation is Key: Always start with a consultation to discuss your specific needs and any health concerns. Find a Qualified Practitioner: Look for certified and experienced practitioners to ensure a safe and effective experience. Billy Kelley has been a Master Reiki Practitioner for over 20 years! Set Realistic Expectations: Understand that while many people experience benefits, results can vary widely. Complementary Therapy: Use energy healing as a complementary approach alongside traditional medical treatments. Listen to Your Body: Pay attention to how you feel during and after sessions, and communicate with your practitioner about your experiences. Research and Evidence Numerous studies have explored the effectiveness of energy healing practices. Here are some key findings: Study Findings Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine (2015) . Participants reported a significant reduction in anxiety and pain levels after energy healing sessions. International Journal of Healing and Caring (2018). Energy therapies were found to improve overall well-being and quality of life in patients with chronic illnesses. American Journal of Public Health (2020) . Research indicated that energy healing can enhance the effectiveness of conventional medical treatments. Final Thoughts Holistic healing services offer a unique approach to wellness that can complement traditional medical treatments. By focusing on the interconnectedness of body, mind, and spirit, these therapies can offer significant benefits for individuals seeking to enhance their overall health and well-being. Have you ever heard someone mention Reiki and wondered what exactly it is? Or maybe you've seen it offered at your local spa or wellness center and thought, "Hmm, should I try that?" If you're curious, you're in the right place! Let me walk you through what Reiki is, how it's used in a massage therapy session, and what you can expect from this fascinating practice. What is Reiki? Reiki (pronounced ray-key ) is a Japanese healing technique focusing on energy healing. The word "Reiki" comes from two Japanese words: Rei , meaning "universal," and Ki , which refers to the "life energy" that flows through all living things. Think of Ki as the same concept as "chi" in Chinese medicine or "prana" in yoga. You feel happy, healthy, and balanced when your life energy is high. But when it's low, you might feel tired, stressed, or more prone to illness. In simple terms, Reiki aims to balance the energy in your body, promoting relaxation, reducing stress, and encouraging healing. What makes Reiki special is that it’s a non-invasive and gentle therapy. Unlike a typical massage that involves muscle manipulation, Reiki involves light touch or even no touch at all. How Does Reiki Work in a Massage Therapy Session? You might be wondering, "How does Reiki fit into a massage?" Great question! Many massage therapists are also trained in Reiki and incorporate it into their sessions. Here’s how it typically works: 1. Setting the Scene When you arrive for your session, your therapist will discuss your needs and goals. Are you dealing with stress? Physical pain? Emotional turmoil? Knowing this helps the practitioner focus their Reiki energy accordingly. The room is usually set up to be calm and inviting—soft music, dim lighting, and maybe some soothing aromatherapy. The goal is to create a peaceful space where you can fully relax. 2. Starting with Massage In a combination session, your therapist might begin with a traditional massage to help loosen tight muscles and improve circulation. This prepares your body to be more receptive to the Reiki energy. 3. Transition to Reiki After the massage portion, the therapist will transition to Reiki . You’ll remain fully clothed (unless you’re still under the covers from the massage) and lie comfortably on the table. The practitioner will place their hands lightly on or just above specific areas of your body, such as your head, shoulders, chest, and feet. During this time, they act as a conduit for universal energy , allowing it to flow through their hands and into your body. There’s no need for you to "do" anything—just breathe and relax. What Does Reiki Feel Like? People often describe the sensation of Reiki differently. Some common experiences include: Warmth or heat radiating from the practitioner’s hands. Tingling or buzzing sensations. A feeling of deep relaxation and calm. Emotional release, like tears or sudden feelings of joy. Lightness or a sense of floating. It’s totally normal if you don’t feel anything at all— Reiki works regardless of whether you consciously notice it. Think of it like enjoying a sunny day: even if you can't see the UV rays, they’re still warming your skin. What Are the Benefits of Reiki? While scientific research on Reiki is still growing, many people report a range of benefits. Here are some of the most commonly mentioned perks: 1. Stress Reduction and Relaxation One of the primary reasons people seek out Reiki is to relieve stress . The calming effect of a session can help quiet your mind and ease tension in your body. 2. Pain Management Some individuals find that Reiki helps alleviate chronic pain or discomfort. While it shouldn’t replace medical treatments, it can be a helpful complement. 3. Emotional Balance Feeling overwhelmed or anxious? Reiki may help stabilize your emotions and provide a sense of inner peace. 4. Enhanced Healing Many use Reiki to support recovery from injuries or surgeries, helping to speed up the healing process. 5. Better Sleep After a session, don’t be surprised if you sleep like a baby! Reiki’s relaxing effects often lead to improved sleep quality . What to Expect After a Reiki Session After your session, you might feel an immediate sense of calm and relaxation. Some people feel energized, while others may feel sleepy—both reactions are perfectly normal. It’s a good idea to drink plenty of water afterward to help your body process any released tension or toxins. Pay attention to how you feel in the days following your session; sometimes, the benefits unfold gradually. How to Prepare for Your Reiki Massage Session Ready to give Reiki a try? Here are a few tips to make the most of your experience: Wear comfortable clothing: You’ll want to feel cozy and unrestricted. Arrive with an open mind: Even if you’re skeptical, approaching the session with curiosity can enhance your experience. Communicate with your therapist: Share any concerns or preferences before starting. Relax and breathe: The more you let go, the more you’ll benefit. Is Reiki Right for You? Reiki is safe for people of all ages and can be used alongside traditional medical treatments. However, it’s not a substitute for professional medical care. If you have specific health concerns, always consult your healthcare provider. Many people find that Reiki is a valuable tool for self-care and personal growth . Whether you’re looking to relieve stress, manage pain, or simply explore something new, a Reiki massage session might be just what you need. Final Thoughts Trying something new can be a bit intimidating, but Reiki is all about gentleness, healing, and balance. It’s like giving yourself permission to slow down, breathe, and reconnect with your body and mind. So, next time you spot Reiki on a spa menu or hear a friend raving about their experience, you’ll know what they’re talking about. And who knows? You might just discover a new favorite way to relax and recharge. Why not give it a try? Your body and mind might thank you!
